Benny

Terms

The short version: your scripts are yours, Benny is a tool to rehearse with, and we ask you to use it fairly. The longer version is below, still in plain words.

Your account

One account per person. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens under it.

Your scripts

The sides you add stay yours. You confirm you're allowed to use them to prepare your own audition. We claim no rights in them, and we use them only to run Benny for you: to prepare the reader's voice, to follow your lines, and to show a scene you share to the friend you invite.

Lines you record for the reader

If you record or upload a line for the reader, upload only audio you have the right to use: your own voice, or the voice of someone who has agreed to it. Your recordings stay yours too. We claim no rights in them, and we use them only to run Benny for you: to time their words and play them in your takes.

Reading with a friend

When you invite a friend to read for you, you confirm you have the right to share that scene with them. Your friend's recordings are theirs too: they come to your script for your takes alone, never to make a voice, and your friend can remove them at any time, after which those lines go back to the reader's voice.

When you read for a friend, record only your own voice, and use the scene's lines only to record them for your friend.

Using Benny fairly

Please don't:

  • add material you have no right to use, or anyone's personal information that isn't part of your sides;
  • try to reach another account's scripts, break the service or work around its limits;
  • run automated tools against it or resell access to it.

What Benny is, and isn't

Benny is a rehearsal partner. It listens for your words and answers with pre-made voices, or with lines you or a friend recorded. It doesn't record your takes, doesn't judge your performance and doesn't promise any audition result. It is a new product in a pilot: things will change, and sometimes something won't work. When that happens we'll say so on the screen rather than pretend.

Our responsibilities and yours

We'll run Benny with care, keep your scripts private to your account but for a scene you choose to share, and tell you about changes that matter. We provide Benny as it is, without warranties beyond what the law requires, and, as far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses such as a missed audition. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we'll say why.
